What They Are Saying
Jillian Palmieri

Prior to developing Bystander: A Portrait in Apathy, Jillian taught seventh grade for four years at Applegarth Middle School in Monroe Township, NJ. During her time there, she also coached the boys soccer team and coordinated several clubs and activities. It was during her time teaching middle school the idea for Bystander was created. The first version of Bystander was actually a collaboration between Jillian and one of her Language Arts classes in 2005. Her students realized the need for a powerful assembly that got middle school students to think and they became the first group of students to perform this assembly. Jillian has her BA in Theater Arts from Douglass College and her MA in Education from Rutgers University. She currently resides in Franklin Park, NJ with her husband Nick and their dog, Quinn.
